The Sounds of Science is an engaging, hands-on STEM and music course where students discover how sound becomes music through science, technology, and creativity.

Using a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), students will experiment with creating sounds, rhythms, and musical compositions while learning the fascinating science behind sound waves, frequency, pitch, amplitude, vibration, resonance, and acoustics. Through interactive demonstrations and creative projects, students will see how sound can be visualized as patterns and shapes, helping them understand the connection between physics and music.

This course encourages curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving while introducing students to the technology used by professional musicians, producers, and sound designers. No prior musical experience is required—students simply need a willingness to explore, experiment, and have fun as they create their own unique sounds and musical experiences.

By the end of the course, students will have a greater appreciation for both the science of sound and the art of music, gaining practical experience with digital music production while discovering that science can be heard as well as seen.
