Through books and images, we introduce students to different types of landscapes and housing styles from around the world. They choose a setting and building type that appeals to the majority of the group and apply that style to create a ‘fantasy’ village.

Some students will design and build the landscape for the community and others will create the housing.

Among the learning benefits of this class, the students will experience how the brain transforms 2D imagery into 3D contruction models!!

Along with creative activities of making aesthetic choices and solving spatial problems, there will also be intuitive and real mathematical calculations working with proportion and making all the elements of the village fit.

Each student will have ‘ownership’ of the finished village for what they’ve accomplished individually, in small groups, and class wide.

Not only will their artistic skills be developed but also, through their choices, they’ll learn the value of collaboration and how to see everything from the “big picture” to the smallest detail.
