"It’s a magical world, Hobbes, ol’ buddy…Let’s go exploring!" - Calvin
In this class students will explore the process of creating comics, cartoons, and the basic fundamental tools of drawing. Students will gain knowledge of the tools necessary for designing comic strips by using various frame layouts, rendering characters, and constructing backgrounds. In addition, students may share their work with the class and collaborate with others in a group, as each group member will take on a different role such as background artist, character designer, storyboard writer, and editor. Students will be encouraged to communicate their interests through their work and to come up with images that are conceptually appealing by illustrating contemporary ideas in their perspective.
Students will receive a cartooning lab kit complete with sketchbook, colored pencils, pack of pens, and a 4-color pen/stylus (see other picture for example kit).
Additionally, you can help other students participate through sponsorship, and you’ll receive a thank you card for your support!
